The first year inside a firm is an education in more than law. It is an education in hierarchy, judgment and the distance between what an organization says it values and what it rewards.

Pay attention to who receives context, not only who receives work. Context is often the real apprenticeship. It teaches an attorney why a matter matters, how a client thinks and what senior lawyers notice before anyone else does.

Ask for that context. Keep a record of what you are learning. Find people who explain rather than merely correct. The quiet rules become less powerful when you can name them.
